J. Thomas Andrew, CP, FAAOP
President
J. Thomas Andrew, president and founder of Ability Prosthetic Systems,
Inc., has been an above knee amputee for over thirty years with 27
years of experience in prosthetics. Tom is an ABC Certified Prosthetist
and has been a member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists
for 26 years of which he was named a fellow in 2001. Tom holds a
Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology from Utah State University.
He then went on to complete his postgraduate education in prosthetics
at UCLA. Tom was also an integral part of the Utah Arm development
team and as such has fit hundreds of patients with the Utah arm and
other conventional or advanced technology upper limb systems. In
addition, Tom has taught at UCLA, Duke, RIC, NEMT19196, and served
as an expert witness in numerous court cases.
Michael Jay, RTP
Director of Laboratory Services
Mike is a ABC Registered Technician of Prosthetics with 16 years of
experience in fabrication and fitting of prosthetic devices. He has
attended numerous prosthetic courses, becoming certified in various
prosthetic and orthotic systems. In addition to his third generation
status within the prosthetic industry, Mike has taught national courses
on carbon composites and their relevance to the prosthetics industry.
Lauri
Gaither
Lab Technician
Lauri is a lead technician at Ability currently pursuing RTP certification
through the American Board for Certification in prosthetics. She
has great skill at providing hand-crafted and aesthetically pleasing
devices
to amputees. In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Cultural
Anthropology from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City.
Jake
Andrew
Lab Technician
Jake has played a role in Ability since it opened its doors in 1993.
For the past 3 years he has been learning technical skills in fabricating
and repairing prostheses. In addition, Jake is currently involved
with the research and development department at Ability.
DeAnne
Garcia
Administrative Assistant
DeAnne coordinates patient insurance concerns, payment arrangements,
in-service training and educational events at Ability. She has 13 years
of experience processing medical claims for a variety of insurance
organizations. In addition, DeAnne holds a B.A. in Communications with
an emphasis in Journalism from Southern Utah University.
Natalie
Humphries
Customer
Service Specialist
Since 1999, Natalie has played a key role as Ability's primary patient
liaison and director of customer services. In addition, she holds an
Associate of Science degree from Salt Lake Community College with four
years experience managing a group home for the disabled.
